Ferris State University's Professional Golf Management program began in 1975 in collaboration with the PGA. Students leave the program with a bachelors degree in business and credits towards a future membership in the PGA. The program combines business classes, five semesters of internship work at PGA golf courses and one year of the PGA's own golf management program. Students trained in the program learn managerial and public relations skills needed to run a golf course and promote and implement golf tournaments. Students also receive training in repairing and maintaining golf equipment. Students in the program have the opportunity to take classes in golf course design and golf facility design. The PGA requires students to pass the PGA Player Ability Test prior to graduation.
