List of Colleges in Kentucky Offering Japanese Classes

Although only 1% of Kentucky's population is of Asian descent, and the population of people of Japanese descent is a fraction of that, several Kentucky colleges and universities offer Japanese language courses. These classes are helpful not only for students interested in Japanese culture, but also for students studying business and international relations. Knowing Japanese can help give graduates a leg up when applying for jobs at Japanese companies like Toyota and Sony, which have major operations in the U.S. Over 100 Japanese companies currently have operations in Kentucky.
  1. Murray State University

    • Starting in 2010, Murray State University will be one of the first colleges in Kentucky to offer a major in Japanese. The courses will cover Japanese language at all levels, as well as classes on Japanese culture, film and civilization. In addition to majoring, Murray State also allows students to combine their education in Japanese with classes in engineering, communication, business and international affairs. As a result, students can build their own individual programs of study to accomplish their desired academic goals. The university also offers study abroad opportunities to Japan.
