Bronx Community College has two programs for paralegal studies. The certificate program requires 30 to 31 credit hours to complete, and students in the program must have already completed 60 credit hours of college coursework in science, math, communication and history.
Program curriculum courses include introduction to paralegal studies, legal research and writing, insurance and torts, and immigration law. Students in the associate in applied science degree program will complete classroom instruction and a 210-hour internship in a legal environment. Program coursework includes introduction to law office management and computers, civil procedure, business law, constitutional law, and estates, trusts and wills. Students may choose the Lay Advocate Option, which includes classes in legal advocacy and family law. This option will prepare students to work the poor, elderly, and physically and mentally challenged.

Berkeley College offers certificate and associate degree programs in paralegal studies. Students entering the paralegal program must have already earned and associate's or bachelor's degree or completed 60 credit hours of college coursework from an accredited school. The certificate program takes six months to complete. Core classes can include contracts and uniform commercial code, employment, bankruptcy law and intellectual property. Students in the associate degree program will take similar paralegal courses to those in the certificate program. Their curriculum can also include business classes, such as financial accounting and career management.

Long Island University Brooklyn offers a paralegal studies certificate program. To be admitted to the program, students must have completed 60 credit hours of college coursework. Students will attend classes four days per week for one semester in either the day or night program. After taking an introduction class on the paralegal program, students will study an introduction to the law. Coursework that follows includes litigation and trial preparation, computers in the law, real estate, contracts, criminal and matrimonial law, and ethics. The curriculum also includes a class in alternative dispute resolution which teaches mediation, arbitration and negation as ways to settle disputes.
