Mississippi College School of Law is located in Jackson, Mississippi. It is a midsized law school which offers a text book of education as well as externships, and access to part-time employment in the legal field. According to the school's website, the professors are well connected and serve to achieve the goal of making sure that students have a well rounded legal education and the competence and confidence to practice law upon graduation. The school provides a Juris Doctor program, Master of Laws program and an Executive Law School program.
The Juris Doctor, or J.D. program allows students to earn a legal education which can allow them to work in or specialize in any field, such as corporate law or family law. The J.D. program is typically completed within three years. The first year focuses on teaching students how to think, speak and write like lawyers with classes such as legal theory and legal composition. During the second and third years, students can complete a variety of electives geared toward their individual interest and partake in externships.
The Master of Laws program is designed for attorneys who hold educational degrees from countries other than the United States. It prepares attorneys trained overseas for global practice. Upon completion of the program, students can take the bar exam in their home states. The program prepares students for dealing with global legal issues such as business transactions, customs and trade, human rights and environmental issues. L.L.M. programs are integrated with J.D. programs, allowing students to choose from several classes geared toward their own unique interest.
The Executive Law School program is geared toward helping people who work full-time to earn their law degree without having to quit working. The program allows students to complete their legal education and earn a Juris Doctor over a five-year period as opposed to three years. The classes and requirements are the same as the J.D. program. A flexible work schedule is also required, as students are required to take and complete at least nine hours of legal courses per semester.
