North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Programs

Obtaining a job in law enforcement can be your stepping stone to a variety of career choices within the criminal justice field. With basic law enforcement training, or BLET, normally a two-year program, you will qualify to take the mandated law enforcement officer's certification exam to become an officer or investigator. Specializing in some other field of law enforcement may require further studies, but North Carolina has several schools in which to take the first step.
  1. Durham Technical Community College

    Gaston College

    • Sponsorship by a law enforcement agency will aid you in enrollment.

Gaston College, in Dallas, North Carolina, offers a basic law enforcement training program certificate after 19 credit hours or a total of 624 hours of course study. The BLET study course at this college is a closed enrollment program, which means every student applying for basic law enforcement training may not be accepted. This is because applications for this training program are handled predominately by the BLET offices and not by the school admissions personnel. However, if you have been hired or have sponsorship from a law enforcement agency, you will be given preferential consideration for enrollment.
