Affiliated with the State University of New York system of colleges and universities, the Syracuse Educational Opportunity Center is a public institution. The school's nurse's aide program lasts for 10 weeks and qualifies students for certified nursing assistant licensure. Students spend the first eight weeks of the program in classroom settings, learning basic medical terminology, anatomy and information relating to patient care. During the final two weeks of the program, students gain experience working with actual patients in a Syracuse-area healthcare facility. The nursing aide program at the Syracuse Educational Opportunity Center is free for individuals who meet certain income guidelines. Upon completion of the program, the Center helps students write their resumes, find employment opportunities and prepare for interviews.
