A privately owned, for-profit institution, Toronto College of Dental Hygiene and Auxiliaries offers an 18-month, CDAC-accredited program in dental hygiene. To qualify, applicants must pass an admissions examination and undergo an interview. Only 52 students receive admittance to the school each year. The program requires class attendance five days per week during daylight hours and features instruction in anatomy, scaling and root planing, and educating patients about dental hygiene, sealants and whitening. The clinical training hours occur in dental practices and clinics as well as on campus. Graduates receive a diploma.

A private, nonprofit school, John Abbott College is in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue in the province of Quebec, approximately 30 minutes from Montreal. Home to more than 7,500 full- and part-time students, the college offers the only CDAC-approved dental hygiene program in Quebec in which classes are taught in English. This diploma program requires six semesters of full-time study. A high school diploma and admissions examination are required. Courses include anatomy, preventive dentistry, microbiology, safety, nutrition, periodontics, detection of oral disease, radiology, restorative dentistry and orthodontics. Students complete three clinical rotations at the college's dental hygiene clinic and one external internship in a dental practice. Full-time students who take the program do not pay tuition to attend John Abbott but must cover the cost of fees, books and other materials.

Vancouver Community College is a public, postsecondary institution located in Vancouver's City Centre, adjacent to Victory Square. The college offers a two-year, full-time program in dental hygiene approved by the CDAC. An admissions examination and high school diploma are necessary for admission. The program includes courses in community dental health, dental science and anatomy, three courses in professional practices and office management and five internship rotations at dental practices throughout Vancouver. The college also offers a part-time dental hygiene program for individuals who hold a dental-assisting license in Vancouver. Through a partnership with the University of British Columbia, graduates of either dental hygiene program can transfer to the university to complete additional courses and graduate with a baccalaureate degree in dental sciences. Only international students must pay tuition for the dental hygiene program. Canadian residents are responsible for fees and the cost of books and supplies.
