Founded in 1868, Wayne State University is a public four-year research university located in the Michigan metropolis city of Detroit. The university includes 13 schools and colleges, which host an academic catalog of more than 400 undergraduate and graduate programs of study. Wayne State's Student Disability Services office was established to aid students with special needs to meet the challenges of university curricula. The university's array of services includes counseling, volunteer note takers, accessible parking and advocacy, in addition to some supplementary services. Prior to receiving services offered by Wayne State's disability services offices, students most provide substantial documentation to register.

Calvin College is a four-year private liberal arts college in suburban Grand Rapids, Michigan. Established in 1876, today the college continues to follow the traditions of the Christian Reformed Church. Calvin features an array of student academic services including a Disability Services division equipped to meet the needs to students with learning disabilities, visual or hearing impairments, psychological disabilities, or any of a host of other special needs. Calvin students seeking disability services must meet with the college's disability coordinator to determine what kind of assistance they will receive. Some of the services available to special needs students at Calvin are proctored testing and special living accommodations.

Founded in 1958, North Central Michigan College is a public two-year community college in the rural northern Michigan city of Petoskey. The college offers disability services for students with special needs enrolled in any of the school's dozens of certificate and associate degree programs. North Central's Learning Support Services offers assistance to students with special academic needs. Students must complete an extensive process of documentation prior to gaining access to the college's disability services which includes tutoring, personal counseling and financial aid. Services are also available on each of North Central's three off-campus locations in Gaylord, Cheboygan and East Jordan.
