Southeast Michigan Colleges

Southeast Michigan is home to many four-year colleges, including two ranked among the nation's top 100 liberal arts colleges by US News and World Report in 2010. These colleges offer degrees in a wide variety of academic and pre-professional fields. Many of these schools have well-established academic traditions with beginnings in the 19th century.
  1. Adrian College

    • Adrian College, a private liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church, was founded in 1859. As of 2009, the school had about 1,500 undergraduates. Students can choose from among 23 academic majors and nearly 30 minors. The college also offers pre-professional programs in architecture, engineering, health science, law, seminary studies and art therapy. Students who meet minimum GPA requirements can apply to enter the college's honors program.

    Albion College

    • Albion College is a private liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The school was founded in 1835, and, as of 2009, it had about 1,900 students. Albion students can choose from among 32 departmental and interdisciplinary majors and 22 minors. The college also offers pre-professional programs in engineering, law, medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine. All Albion students must complete a first-year seminar. Albion College tied for 97th in US News and World Report's 2010 ranking of liberal arts colleges.

    Rochester College

    • Rochester College is a private college that was founded in 1959. As of 2009, the school had about 820 students. The college remains affiliated with the Churches of Christ. The college offers more than 50 fields of study for undergraduates, organized into two primary divisions, including the division of arts and sciences and the division of business and professional studies. Students can pursue elementary and secondary education, biblical studies, youth and family ministry and a variety of fields in the humanities and natural sciences. The college also offers some programs for graduate students at its Resource Center for Missional Leadership. The college also offers continuing education programs.

    Marygrove College

    • Marygrove College is a private, Catholic liberal arts college that was founded in 1905. The college offers undergraduate programs in 52 fields. Students can work toward associate degrees, bachelor's degrees and teacher certifications. Qualified students can apply to enter the college's honors program. The college also offers graduate programs in 15 fields, including a variety of education and teaching fields. The college also offers continuing education programs for adults.

    Hillsdale College

    • Hillsdale College is a private liberal arts college that was founded in 1844. As of 2009, the school had about 1,300 undergraduates. Hillsdale students can choose from among 35 departmental and interdisciplinary majors and minor fields of study. The college also offers pre-professional programs in law, medicine, veterinary medicine, engineering, dentistry, environmental sciences and ministerial studies. All Hillsdale students must sign the college's honor code at the beginning of their first year at the school. Hillsdale College tied for 89th in US News and World Report's 2010 ranking of liberal arts colleges.
