These programs are accredited by the National Center for Aircraft Technician Training (NCATT). Graduates will be prepared to take the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant (A & P) certification exam, which is required to perform maintenance and repairs on small and large aircraft.

    Vincennes University Aviation Technology Center

    • The Vincennes University Aviation Technology Center is a specialized aviation training facility located at the Indianapolis International Airport in Indianapolis, Indiana. Vincennes offers four aviation programs: two associate degree aviation maintenance technician programs, an airframe and powerplant certification course and a flight school. The aviation maintenance technician programs are two-year programs and coursework includes general aviation maintenance, aircraft systems, aircraft electrical and aircraft inspection. The courses are 60 percent laboratory and 40 percent lecture instruction. The associate degree programs also require completion of general education courses. These courses may require pre-requisite courses depending on your college experience. The certification course is divided into three parts: a computerized FAA exam, an oral exam and a practical skills exam, all given by onsite FAA Designated Mechanic Examiners.

    Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

    • Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is a multinational university headquartered in Daytona Beach, Florida. Embry-Riddle offers a fully accredited aviation maintenance program. The program is available as an two-year associate degree and a four-year bachelor degree option. Some of the coursework includes general aeronautics and applications, airframe structures and applications, power plant theory and applications and aircraft electrical systems theory. If you already hold FAA certification, 24 credit hours are awarded toward the associate degree or 30 credit hours toward the bachelor's degree.
