California Universities That Offer Aviation Courses

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the number of jobs for pilots and flight engineers will increase by 12 percent between 2008 and 2018. While aviation courses in college can lead to such careers, many are not specifically geared towards pilot training. In California, aviation studies offered by universities there encompass a varieity of subdisciplines within the field.
  1. San Jose State University

    • San Jose State University's Aviation and Technology Department is part of the degree program offered by the College of Engineering. Students can either pursue a major in aviation, resulting in the bachelor of science degree, or they can minor in the field. The bachelor's degree is offered with four possible areas of concentration: operations, avionics, aviation management, and maintenance management. The operations concentration will prepare students to serve as pilots and other positions within the commercial airline industry. Courses include introduction to aviation, aircraft theory and design, aircraft systems, propulsion theory, and airline operations and management.
