How to Cite a Magazine Published Bimonthly in MLA Format

The purpose of citation is to provide your reader with a definitive source from which you learned certain pieces of information. This means that your citation must be specific enough so that it could not be confused with another source. Because Modern Language Association citation style requires you to provide the day, month and year of all magazines cited, you should cite a bimonthly magazine just as you would cite a magazine published in any other manner.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin your bibliographic entry with the author's last and first name. For example:

      Johnson, John.

    • 2

Continue your citation with the title of the magazine article in quotation marks:

Johnson, John. "Is the Budget Battle Worth the Time?"

    • 3

List the name of the magazine in italics, followed directly by the day, month and year of publication. Place a colon after the year. Abbreviate the name of the month to three letters.

Johnson, John. "Is the Budget Battle Worth the Time?" Newsweek 11 Nov. 2010:

    • 4

List the beginning and ending pages of the article, separated by a hyphen and followed by a period. For example:

Johnson, John. "Is the Budget Battle Worth the Time?" Newsweek 11 Nov. 2010: 46-49.

    • 5

End your citation with the medium of publication, which should appear as "Print." For example:

Johnson, John. "Is the Budget Battle Worth the Time?" Newsweek 11 Nov. 2010: 46-49. Print.
