Fort Valley State University's 1,375-acre campus serves as home to more than 3,500 undergraduate and graduate students. The university consists of the colleges of Arts and Science, Education, and Agriculture with degree programs in areas like agricultural economics, horticulture, zoology, veterinary science, and commercial art. For distance education, the college offers entirely online baccalaureate degrees in criminal justice, political science, psychology, and technical and professional writing. Paid cooperative work placements are available in most majors, and students have the opportunity to study abroad. The school has 11 intercollegiate and six intramural sports teams, nine Greek fraternities and sororities, and more than 70 student organizations.

Founded in 1973 as an adult education center, Middle Georgia Technical college began granting associate of applied science (A.A.S.) degrees in June 1999. The school is in Warner Robbins, around 13 miles from Fort Valley (approximately 25 minutes by automobile). The college offers general education associate degree programs for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university. Students who complete one of the school's A.A.S., certificate, or diploma programs receive a quality guarantee from Middle Georgia Tech; under the policy, students can receive free re-training from the college if an employer finds their skills inadequate within two years of their graduation. The college offers programs in business and technology, industrial technology, and health care and human services. Online courses are available in many subjects. Job placement assistance is offered. The school has around 10 student groups based on campus.

A public institution based in Midgeville, Georgia Military College also has a campus in Warner Robbins, about 18 miles from Fort Valley (around 30 minutes by automobile). The college grants associate of science and associate of arts degrees in 19 different majors, including homeland security, education, logistics management, business administration, and communications. The goal of the college is to prepare students for transferring to a four-year university or college, and in some cases, for entry into a U.S. military Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at their chosen four-year schools. The college has intramural sports teams for both men and women. Twenty students groups are on campus, including a drama club that stages annual productions and a student-run newspaper.
