    • Founded in 1979, this small, private liberal arts college is affiliated with the Christian Reformed Church and enrolls approximately 600 students each year. The King's University College's mission statement is "to provide university education that inspires and equips learners to bring renewal and reconciliation to every walk of life as followers of Jesus Christ, the Servant-King." The school offers over 450 courses and grants students with three-year and four-year bachelor degrees in fields such as environmental studies, politics, history, biology, music, theology, education and English. Because of its small size, The King's University College boasts a student-to-teacher ratio of just seven to one. The school is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities.

    University of Alberta

    • Founded in 1908 by first Premier of Alberta Alexander Cameron Rutherford, this large public research university covers over 50 city blocks and occupies over 90 buildings. Approximately 37,000 students hailing from all the Canadian provinces as well as 116 foreign countries enroll at the University of Alberta each year. Just over 50% of the students are full-time undergraduates and around 55% are female. The University of Alberta is the only Canadian university to win national championships in all 11 team sports and has graduated more than 1,700 Academic All-Canadians, athletes who maintain an academic average of 80% or higher. Newsweek ranked the University of Alberta as the 25th best university in North America.

    Grant McEwan University

    • Established in 1971, Grant McEwan began as a community college but became an accredited university in 2004. Named after former lieutenant governor of Alberta Dr. J.W. Grant MacEwan, this university offers six bachelor degree programs in arts, child and youth care, jazz and contemporary music, nursing, sciences and commerce. Within these programs students can choose a wide range of majors such as mathematics, composition, anthropology, philosophy, political science, psychology and management. Grant McEwan University also offers over 60 diploma and certificate programs; however, the school currently does not offer an graduate studies programs. Grant McEwan sports teams compete in the Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference.
