VCU Nursing Programs & Degrees

The Virginia Commonwealth University was established in 1893 to deliver a high standard of training to nurses, which it continues to do today. Its courses combine classroom and laboratory learning with real patient-care experiences.
  1. Undergraduate Courses

    • One-year pre-nursing courses prepare students to enter a bachelor's of science nursing program. The B.S. degree is available in three forms: traditional three-year program, an accelerated B.S. program for students who already hold a bachelor's degree and a program for registered nurses that can be completed while working full time.

    Postgraduate Studies

    • A master's of science degree can be undertaken either full or part time, and VCU also offers a post-master's certificate and a PhD program.

    Finance

    • Students at VCU often qualify for financial assistance. The college disburses more than $270 million in student aid each year, in the form of grants, loans and scholarships. There is also an on-campus employment program that allows students to earn money while gaining experience of working in the field of medicine.

    Considerations

    • Competition for places on all VCU nursing courses is very fierce, so you need to have excellent references and good grades in math and science.
