Roosevelt University is an independent university in downtown Chicago. The school first opened in 1945 and, as of 2011, has 4,711 students enrolled in classes. Kendall College is located in a century-old factory building right alongside the Chicago River. This school was founded in 1934 and has 2,253 students enrolled in classes. The student-to-faculty ratio at Kendall College is 19 to 1, and classes rarely have more than 25 students. Kendall College offers programs in business, hospitality management, culinary arts and early childhood education. These schools offer undergraduate degrees that include small business management, business psychology, hotel and lodging management, culinary arts and early education certification.
Shimer College was founded in 1853 and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees. The campus is spread out over 120 acres and it has 100 students enrolled in undergraduate classes. It has 11 full-time faculty members, and 93 percent hold a doctoral degree in their field of interest. The average class size at Shimer is eight students. The college has more than150 student organizations, and its facilities of the college are equipped with modern amenities. Shimer is a liberal arts college that offers degrees in three areas: humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.
