Valencia Community College has campuses throughout the Central Florida area. The cardiovascular technologist program is offered through their Allied Health program. Graduates will receive an Associate of Science degree.The program can be completed in two years and requires the completion of 77 credit hours. Many of the courses are co-requisites, meaning they must be completed together. Each course must also be completed with at least a "C" to receive credit. Due to the clinical demands, the program has limited registration. Applicants must have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA prior to applying to the program. Those with a higher GPA and medical experience will be given preference.
The University of South Carolina located in Columbia, South Carolina, offers a unique Bachelor of Science degree in cardiovascular technology. The program includes three years of study, covering approximately 100 credit hours, followed by an internship of 12- to -18 months. The program prepares students to move directly into a career as a cardiovascular technologist.
Spokane Community College in Washington state offers a two-year associate program in cardiovascular technology. The program consists of six semesters of classroom and lab work and one semester in a clinical internship setting. This program is the only one in the northwestern United States approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs as an invasive cardiovascular technician program.
Orange Coast College is located in Costa Mesa, California. Their cardiovascular technologist program is 22 months long. They do offer an option to exit the program after one year with an Electrocardiography Certificate. There are only 24 spaces per year in this highly competitive program. Students are required to attend lecture classes. Applicants will need to obtain a physical, a criminal background check, a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and student liability insurance before beginning the program.
