The wind technology program at Texas State teaches all aspects of wind technology with an emphasis on safety. Some of the courses in the program are programmable logic controllers, DC and AC circuits, iberdrola renewable, basic fluid power, digital fundamentals, industrial automation, electro-mechanical equipment and wind turbine materials, wind turbine repair and troubleshooting and wind business. They also teach courses in supervisory control and data acquisition, SCADA. SCADA is the computer system standard for the wind industry. Texas State Technical College offers a certificate in wind technology, associate of applied science degree and one semester TMSC online program.
Holland College in Canada is known for trades & technology programs. The wind technology program requires training in other disciplines besides wind technology. The course lasts nine months and students must have passed grade 12 with preference given to those students that completed grade 11 or 12 physic courses. The program is taught at the Summerside location, which is near to many wind farms, and the Wind Energy Institute of Canada. The tuition for the program is approximately $4500.
Redstone College in Denver, Colorado offer and Associate of Occupation Studies that focuses on wind energy technology. The program lasts 15 months and teaches students how to service, install, test and repair wind turbines. You also learn the necessary climbing and descent skills needed to work on wind turbines. Courses focus on safety, structural aspects, history, wind turbine metrics, wind turbine major components, digital circuits, electronics and development of wind turbines.
Iowa State community college offers an Associate in Applied Science or a diploma in wind energy and turbine technology. The Associate degree is an 80-credit program; the diploma requires only 48 credits. Topics covered in the course include high tech-low voltage systems, diagnosis of turbines, composite repair, people management, data acquisition and computerized control and monitoring systems. For those students that do not have the academic record to enter the program, the college has a wind energy general studies track to strengthen your skills so you can enter the program.
