Michigan Technology Colleges

The state of Michigan offers residents and nonresidents choices for higher education with more than 100 colleges and universities spread throughout the state. Technical colleges offer prospective students the opportunity to focus on career-specific trades without the general studies typically seen at two- and four-year liberal arts colleges and universities.
  1. Michigan Career and Technical Institute

    • Located in Plainwell, the Michigan Career and Technical Institute provides vocational and technical training for adults with disabilities in Michigan. Three principles surround its educational mission:

      -- Standards of excellence

      -- Market-driven based upon need

      -- Advocacy and empowerment of the disabled

      Courses include Automotive Technology, Cabinetmaking/Millwork, Certified Nurse Assistant, Culinary Arts, Custodial, Customer Service and Electronics. Additional courses include Retail Marketing, Office Automation, Machine Technology and Grounds Maintenance and Landscaping. Rates depend upon residency of the potential student.

    Michigan Technological University

    • Located in the Upper Peninsula, Michigan Technological University (Michigan Tech) offers undergraduate and graduate programs at its College of Engineering. The three goals of Michigan Tech are as follows:

      -- Attract world-class students, staff and faculty

      -- Deliver experiences based upon extensive research in science, technology, business innovation and sustainability

      -- Establish innovations in economic and development throughout Michigan and the world

      Courses of study include technology, sciences, engineering, computing, economics and business and social sciences. Financial aid opportunities are available for resident and nonresident students through scholarships, grants and loans. The dual enrollment program is available to high school students in the state of Michigan while still in school.

    Eastern Michigan University: College of Technology

    • Eastern Michigan University, located in Ypsilanti, offers undergraduate programs in the fields of science and technology, management and education, design, computer technology and military science, as well as graduate and doctorate degrees in technology. The application process at Eastern Michigan University is open to residents and nonresidents and available online. In-person applications are not accepted. Financial aid programs, including scholarships, grants and loans, are available to all students.

    Central Michigan: College of Science and Technology

    • Central Michigan University College of Science and Technology, located in Mount Pleasant, offers eight courses of study in biology, physics, mathematics, geology and meteorology, geography, engineering and technology, computer science and chemistry. Undergraduate and graduate degrees provide students with practical learning experiences on campus. Sixty campuses throughout the United States as well as online classes provide distance education opportunities.
