Originally founded in 1869 as a seminary, Augsburg College is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. The college offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs in fields ranging from art, business, science and music to pre-professional programs in dentistry, pharmacy, medicine and law. Graduate programs are available in education, nursing, business administration, social work and leadership. The school also offers an M.S. in Physician Assistant Studies. North Central University is a private college affiliated with the Pentecostal Church. Baccalaureate programs include Biblical studies, communication, English, music, education and social work. The school offers only undergraduate education and associate's degrees, diplomas and certificates are also available. Saint Mary's University of Minnesota is a private, Catholic college. The university was founded in 1912 in Winona, Minnesota and the original campus there offers undergraduate degree programs. The Minneapolis campus contains the Schools of Graduate and Professional Programs (SGPP). Graduate programs are available in education, nurse anesthesia, public safety administration, human development and the arts, among many others. Other SGPP branches are located in Rochester, Apple Valley, Minnetonka and Oakdale.
The University of St. Thomas is a large private, Catholic university with campuses in St. Paul and Minneapolis serving more than 10,500 graduate and undergraduate students. The school has a long history in the area, having been founded in 1885 in St. Paul. The Minneapolis campus contains the Opus College of Business, the St. Thomas School of Education, the Graduate School of Professional Psychology and the St. Thomas School of Law.
