Non-Accredited Bible Colleges

Accreditation is a process that many schools go through in order to prove that their programs are worthy of certification in a certain field. There is often a review committee that looks in-depth at a school's program, faculty, courses offered and texts. Some schools, including bible colleges, either do not wish to expend the resources or cannot pass an accreditation review committee, but this does not mean they cannot be a valuable location for an education.
  1. St. Paul's Theological Centre

    • St. Paul's Theological Centre offers courses in theology, with several tracks for a student to follow. The center is affiliated with St. Mellitus College in London, England. Areas of study offered are the bible, faith and life. These courses are not taken for credit because the center is not accredited. Instead, these classes are designed for those who wish to deepen their faith.

    Portland Bible College

    • Portland Bible College is a theological institution located in Oregon that has been training ministers for more than 40 years. The college states that it has not been accredited because accrediting associations do not make the appropriate provisions for colleges that are governed by local churches. It offers associate degree programs in theology, church music, christian humanities, church leadership and bachelor's degree programs in theology and church music.

    Ames Christian University

    • Ames Christian University is located in Richmond, Va. It is accredited by some Christian-focused groups, including the World Wide Accreditation Commission of Christian Educational Institutions, but such groups are not recognized regionally or nationally. Ames stands by its decision to not receive national accreditation because it wants its leaders to be spiritually guided and passionate. The university, however, reports that it may seek to become affiliated with some national accreditation societies in order to meet the needs of some of its students.

    Calvary Chapel Bible College

    • Calvary Chapel Bible College is located in Murrieta, Calif. The school is not accredited, though it does meet state requirements for religious exemption. The school is not currently seeking accreditation as some of its classes are taught by local ministers and religious leaders who may not have the appropriate degrees to teach at an accredited school. It also states that in order to keep tuition costs down and attendance affordable, accreditation is not in the best interest of the school.
