How to Write APA Reference Format for Magazines

When writing an educational paper or essay, every source, including magazines, should be incorporated into the reference list. An APA-style reference list is always double spaced, in alphabetical order and the second line of the citation is always indented. There are two main types of magazines to be cited. Here are instructions for citing a monthly and a weekly magazine in APA format.

  1. Monthly Magazine Article Format

      Type the last name of the author, followed by a comma, then the first initial and a period.

      Type the year and the month of the magazine issue, all in parentheses.

      Type a period, a space, the title of the article (capitalizing only the first word of the title) and a period.

      Type the title of the magazine, a comma and the volume number, all in italics.

    Weekly Magazine Article Format
