The College of Marin, Marin County's only is a two-year community college, offers credit and non-credit courses in more than 60 academic disciplines. Students can earn certificates or associate's degrees, and many transfer their credits to four-year institutions upon graduation. The school was established in 1926 and merged with the Indian Valley College in 1985. It has two campuses, Kentfield Campus (in Kentfield) and Indian Valley Campus (in Novato).
City College of San Francisco-Chinatown/North Beach Campus is a two-year community college located just south of Marin County. Established in 1935, it offers more than 50 academic programs and 100 occupational disciplines. In addition to standard academic courses, the school has programs for working adults, career and technical education, continuing education, contract education, distance learning, and honors.
Contra Costa College is in San Pablo, southeast of Marin County. Opened in 1949, it's one of three colleges in the Contra Costa Community College District. The school, which sits on an 83-acre campus overlooking San Pablo Bay, offers associate's degrees and certificates in a variety of program majors. Students choose from Career-Technical Education and and Pre-Collegiate programs and also have access to a variety of extracurricular and other academic programs. Course are available on-campus and online.
Santa Rosa Junior College, in Sonoma County, north of Marin County, offers associate of arts and science degrees. Approximately 40,000 students from a variety of backgrounds enroll each semester. It operates a self-sustaining 365-acre farm, progressive technology academy, student-run culinary arts center, and top-flight public safety training center. The school has two campuses, in Petaluma and Santa Rosa, and distance education is available for students who can't attend on-campus.
