Cincinnatus, N.Y., is a rural community south of Utica and near the city of Syracuse. It is in Cortland County, and has a population of under 2,000. Established in 1795, this town is rich in history, hosts the annual Home of the Corn Festival and has a variety of skiing options nearby.     • The State University of New York College at Cortland was established in 1868, has an enrollment of over 7,000 and is situated on a 191-acre campus. This school has over 6,000 students, with programs in criminal justice, business, computers, health, liberal arts and human services.It offers full-time, part-time and online study paths. Tuition in 201-2011 was $139 per credit hour for New York residents and $288 for out of state students.

    Syracuse University

    • Syracuse University is a private school roughly 50 miles from Cincinnatus. The university features a School of Architecture, the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, the L.C. Smith School of Engineering and Computer Science and many others. Over 200 majors and 90 minors are available to undergraduates, and the school's library holds more than 3.1 million volumes. The athletic department is famous for its men's basketball program, which won the national championship in 2003. Its arena, the Carrier Dome, seats 50,000.     Le Moyne College

    • Also in Syracuse, Le Moyne College is a Jesuit school that was established in 1946. Its student-to-teacher ratio is 13-to-1, and the average class size is 22 students. There are more than 30 undergraduate programs and the school confers master's degrees in business administration, education, nursing and physical assistant studies. Certificate programs, such as Pastoral Ministry and Holistic Aging, are also offered. Students who excel can join their major's honor society. Tuition for the 2010-2011 academic year was $26,350, plus room, board, meals and expenses. Financial aid and scholarships are available by application and through submission of the Federal FAFSA form.
