Master's and doctoral degrees in library information sciences (LIS) are offered at many colleges in America. An Internet search will result in as many as 80 schools with LIS graduate degrees. These schools span the country, including Hawaii, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
"U.S. News & World Report" has ranked the top graduate programs in LIS. Tied for first is the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champagne campus and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ranked third is Syracuse University in New York and fourth is the University of Washington, Seattle campus. Fifth is the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey is sixth and Indiana University in Bloomington is seventh. Eighth is the University of Texas in Austin and ninth is Drexel University in Philadelphia. Three schools tied for tenth -- the University of Maryland in College Park, the main campus of the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
