Schools for a BSN Degree

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degrees can be useful to a variety of students. They can help students fresh out of high school, as well as college graduates, get into nursing. They can also help those already working as nurses to gain further credentials and open new opportunities. Graduates may find work in hospitals, home care, long-term care, schools and other organizations. Colleges across the country are training students to fill these positions.
  1. Specialized Schools

    • Students may pursue a BSN degree in a school that specializes in health care education or exclusively in nursing. For example, the Chamberlain College of Nursing (chamberlain.edu) offers nursing programs at all levels, including BSN degrees. The college has campuses in seven states. Other examples include the Oregon Health and Science University (ohsu.edu) and Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences (fhchs.edu), which offer a variety of degrees in the health care field, including BSN degrees.

    National Schools

    • Students may opt to study toward their BSN degrees at a large college that has campuses across the country. Such colleges offer students a range of locations where they may pursue their degree, though not all programs are offered on all campuses. Examples of such schools include University of Phoenix (phoenix.edu) and National American University (national.edu). University of Phoenix focuses on online learning but has campuses across 42 states and offers BSN degrees for students who are registered nurses or licensed practicing nurses. The National American University has campuses in eight states and offers nursing programs, including a BSN degree program.

    Local Schools

    • Students may pursue their BSN degree in one of many colleges serving a particular city or community. Example include Washington, D.C.'s, Georgetown University (georgetown.edu) and Columbia, Missouri's, University of Missouri (missouri.edu). Georgetown offers traditional and accelerated BSN programs, while the University of Missouri offers these programs as well as an online program for students who are registered nurses. Other schools, like Florida's Keiser University (keiseruniversity.edu), offer BSN programs on different campuses that are all in a particular state.

    Online Schools

    • Students can also receive a BSN degree by enrolling in an online, distance education program. Such programs allow students to study remotely and on their own schedules. In some cases, however, there are limitations regarding a student's place of residence. For example, if a program involves a clinical placement, a student may have to live in a particular area to enroll in the program. Online BSN programs, both traditional and ones intended for registered nurses, are offered by colleges such as University of Phoenix (phoenix.edu), Capella University (capella.edu), Western Governors University (wgu.edu) and Walden University (waldenu.edu).
