How to Cite References on a Scientific Poster Presentation

Creating a references section for a scientific poster presentation should be one of the easier parts of the work, as you must do all of the research before completing the poster. Simply keep all the sources you reference or cite handy when you create the poster. Because the sciences typically follow American Psychological Association formatting, these instructions will adhere to the most recent version of APA style.

Instructions

    • 1

Include in-text citations within the poster board using APA style. When referring to an article, place the author's last name and the date of article publication in parentheses within the sentence.

    • 2

Leave a space on the poster for the references section. The Writing Center at George Mason University suggests leaving the bottom right hand side of the poster for references.

    • 3

Type the works referenced according to APA formatting. According to the Writing Center at George Mason University, which adheres to current APA guidelines, you should "use the same references as in your original research paper." If citing an article, APA requires the following format: Author, A. A., Author, B. B., & Author, C. C. (Year). Title of article. Title of Periodical (in italics), volume number (in italics) (issue number), pages.

    • 4

Size the document so that the paper fits onto the poster. The font size should be readable. Try to size the font one to two sizes smaller than the rest of the poster so that it is readable but takes up less space. The size of the references section will vary according to the amount of references found on the poster. Adhere the references section to the poster in the desired position.
