The University of Washington offers a tuition exemption program for university employees as well as state employees. This exemption only applies to six credits and is available on a space-availability basis with no out-of-pocket expense.
Many private universities offer similar programs for university employees. Bastyr University offers nine credits of free classes to its employees each year. Pacific Lutheran University offers tuition assistance programs that apply to faculty and dependents, and can sometimes apply to different universities.
Most Washington State public school districts offer tuition reimbursement programs. Public school districts usually offer reimbursement for classes not directly job-related, but the monetary limits are generally quite low. For example, the Auburn School District only repays teachers 500 dollars of their tuition and fees.
One of Washington State's largest private employers, Boeing, offers tuition assistance to employees enrolled in employment-applicable coursework. Boeing's Learning Together Program pays full tuition for coursework at various colleges and universities through vouchers. Pepperdine University and the University of California at Irvine Extension are two schools that partner with Boeing in its "Learning Together" program.
Technology juggernaut Microsoft, uses tuition and textbook reimbursement for approved work-related classes. Microsoft also offers internal professional development courses, as well as certification programs that can be costly to obtain through colleges or other training facilities.
The Washington State National Guard also offers tuition reimbursement to its members. Military tuition reimbursement programs are often much less restrictive than those from private employers, usually applicable to courses unrelated to their job position. For ROTC members, tuition is generally without cost.
