Forensic Science Scholarships

If you’re interested in the forensic sciences, financial support is available from a variety of organizations, foundations and schools to help you on your way. Scholarships may be for forensic science studies in general or targeted to a specific discipline. In addition to targeted scholarships, students should consider general scholarships and federal grants.
  1. Department of Homeland Security

    • The Department of Homeland Security awards undergraduate and graduate scholarships to students who wish to study basic science and technology innovations, including forensic science disciplines. Scholarships are competitive and awarded annually. The application deadlines are in early January and award notification is made in March. Application and references must be submitted through the DHS website. The student’s official academic transcript and copies of passports or birth certificates must be submitted in hard copy. The address for hard copy documentation is provided once the applicant begins the online application process.

    The Association of Firearm and Tool Mark Examiners

    • The Association of Firearm and Tool Mark Examiners offers a $1,000 scholarship that to selected students who wish to study a forensic science discipline. Scholarships are merit–based, and students must reapply each year by the April 1 deadline. Application forms are available at the ATFE website. All information requested, except for academic transcripts, can be emailed directly to the ATFE. Academic transcripts must be sent to the address specified on the ATFE's website page that contains the remaining application information and links.

    Ellis R. Kerley Forensic Sciences Foundation

    • The Ellis R. Kerley Forensic Sciences Foundation issues at least one scholarship per year to graduate students studying physical or forensic anthropology. The student must have an association with either the American Academy of Forensic Sciences or the American Board of Forensic Anthropology and demonstrate academic merit. Applications are due by April 30 and are awarded in mid-August. Applications should be mailed to:

    George H. Robinson Memorial Scholarship

    • The Chesapeake Bay Division of the International Association for Identification (IAI) sponsors the George H. Robinson Memorial Scholarship. The $500 scholarship is awarded to at least one student annually; multiple awards are granted in some years. The scholarship application process is open to any forensic science or criminal justice student, and application paperwork must be received by late August. Applicants can download the application form from the Association’s website and mail requested paperwork to:
