The American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association (AREMA) offers three scholarship programs for mechanical engineering students who plan to pursue a career in the railway industry. Scholarship programs are available to undergraduate mechanical engineering students with a minimum 2.0 GPA. Scholarship amounts range from $1,000 to $2,500 and individual eligibility criteria varies with each award.

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) offers multiple scholarship opportunities to undergraduate and graduate mechanical engineering students. All applicants must be student members of ASME and enrolled in an ABET-accredited mechanical engineering program. Selection for the $2,000 awards is based on academic achievement, personal character and financial need.

The American Chemical Society's Rubber Division sponsors an undergraduate scholarship program for mechanical engineering students who express an interest in pursuing a career in the rubber industry. Applicants must be incoming juniors or seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA who are enrolled in an accredited engineering program. Students must also be nominated by two members of their respective school's faculty to be considered for the $5,000 award.

The Great Minds in STEM HENAAC Scholars Program is open to Hispanic undergraduates and graduate students who are pursuing degrees in mechanical engineering and related fields. The program awards scholarships of $500 to $5,000 to students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership skills, participation in extracurricular activities and service to the Hispanic community.

The Science, Mathematics And Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program offers scholarships to mechanical engineering undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to apply and be enrolled in ABET-accredited engineering program at a participating school. The program provides full tuition and fees, a cash stipend of $25,000 to $41,000 depending on previous work experience, paid summer internship opportunities and health insurance and book allowances. In exchange, recipients must agree to a post-graduation period of employment with the Department of Defense.
