The AAUW, formerly known as the American Association of University Women, aims to provide equal educational opportunities for girls and women across the United States. To that end, the AAUW Career Development Grants are available to women who are preparing to earn a bachelor's degree (either their first or second), enroll in a master's level program, or complete a certificate program. The grants are awarded in amounts varying between $2,000 and $12,000, and special consideration will be given to applicants who are minorities, or who are preparing to enter into a field that has been traditionally dominated by men.

The National Black Nurses Association Scholarship program provides scholarships for African-American women in any healthcare profession who are preparing to further their education. Fourteen scholarships are available each year, ranging from amounts as small as $500 to grants more than $2,000. Applicants must be members of the association, and must have at least one year of schooling left to complete. Applicants who can show evidence of student nurse volunteer work or African-American community outreach will be given preference.
