Freshman and undergraduate transfer students are automatically considered for academic scholarships when they apply. These scholarships are based on standardized tests and high school (or transfer college) grade point average. Students who receive these scholarships must hold a 3.25 GPA or greater while they are at school, and they must remain enrolled as full-time students. The scholarships are also renewable for up to four years of study.

Each year the Pepperdine Law School selects faculty scholars from the incoming class of students. This scholarship is the most prestigious one offered by the law school, and it includes full tuition for the first year of study in addition to a $5,000 living stipend; the scholarship is renewable if the recipient remains in the top third of the class. Pepperdine's website suggests that the most competitive applicants will have an LSAT score above the 93rd percentile, and at least a 3.65 grade point average. To be eligible, prospective students must apply to the law school by their January 15 deadline. Students must also complete a faculty scholar application, and write a letter that discusses why they want the award, their interest in pursuing law as a career, their important academic and employment experiences, and how they plan to add to the University's core mission.

Students applying to all programs in the Graduate School of Education and Psychology are automatically considered for several scholarships based on GPA, test scores and financial need. For students applying to the Master of Arts in Social Entrepreneurship and Change, there is a separate application for a $4,500 annual scholarship. Students have to apply to the school by January 15, submit a FAFSA, and write an essay that's two to four pages long. The 2010 application essay asked students to write about a social justice issue they care about, how they got involved in social action, and how their education at Pepperdine fits into their long-term goals.
