The Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine ranks in the U.S. News and World Report 2010 list of the country's top 25 medical research schools and as the state's largest biomedical research institution. The dean of the college awards merit-based scholarships from $20,000 to $40,000 per academic year. Students with a financial need and strong academic achievement apply for an alumni scholarship of $20,000 annually. The Satcher-Pamies scholarship recognizes high-achieving minority students with an annual award of $30,000. The school launched the merit-based Amici scholarship program more than 30 years ago with support from the friends of the School of Medicine. The department awards a minimum of $20,000 up to a four-year scholarship annually. Students should apply for scholarships through the financial aid office after submitting a free application for federal student aid form. The competitive school received nearly 6,000 admissions for the 2009 school year, with a total enrollment of 1,475 students.

The Mayo Medical School awarded a minimum of $25,000 in scholarship money to every admitted student in the 2008 school year, according to Kim Clark of U.S. News. The school determines the award amount during the admissions application and on-campus interview. The Mayo Medical School publishes a list of outside scholarship sources to cover any remaining education expenses.

The Vanderbilt School of Medicine awards all students a minimum annual scholarship of $2,000 automatically, whether or not the student has a financial need. The school periodically awards other scholarships; the merit-based Thomas M. Blake and Barbara D. Murnan memorial scholarships, and the Bess and Townsend McVeigh and John E. Chapman endowed scholarships for students who demonstrate financial need and outstanding academic achievements. Students with significant need may qualify for the Bess and Townsend McVeigh full or partial scholarship. Dean's Scholarships give partial and full-tuition awards annually on a discretionary basis to ensure diversity in student enrollment. The dean also selects two students each year to receive the full merit-based Elizabeth Craig Proctor and Canby Robinson Scholarships, renewable annually with continued academic performance.
