The Irwin Foundation offers grants for accredited veterinary schools within major universities including Michigan State, Cornell University, and Purdue University. Applicants are selected by the individual schools, not the Foundation. In addition, the foundation offers scholarships for students pursuing a career in the field of veterinarian technology. The Irwin Foundation was established in 1995 and is named in honor of two educators from the Detroit area.

Established in 1958, the Veterinary Scholarship Trust of New England is a nonprofit agency that awards financial assistance to New England residents who enter veterinarian school. A student is considered a New England resident if she earned a high school diploma in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island or Vermont. Students are also eligible if they lived in a New England state for five continuous years prior to being admitted to veterinary school. A student may attend any veterinary school located in the United States. The amount of the awards vary depending on the availability of funds. The grant is made possible by the New England Veterinary Medical Association and other state veterinary affiliations.

The Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University annually offers dozens of grants for veterinary school. Grants are awarded based on a student's financial need.
Tufts offers the Sheehan Equine Award, which dates back to 1981, and is given to a fourth-year student who displays interest in equine medicine and plans on pursuing a career in the field.
The Charles D. Beeler Scholarship is awarded annually to a student in good academic standing who intends on pursuing a small animal practice.
Created in 1994, the John F. and Georgia O'Neill Flagg Scholarship Fund for Wildlife Medicine is awarded annually to a veterinary student who is intent in specializing in wildlife medicine.
The Westminster Kennel Club Foundation Scholarship is annually presented to a student who plans on focusing on canine medicine or surgery.
