Scholarships for a PhD in Health

Many opportunities for professional development exist for college graduates with doctoral degrees in health-related fields. Many of these opportunities take the form of scholarships and fellowships from governmental or professional organizations. These types of scholarship opportunities support recent graduates while they gain hands-on experience and begin their post-doctoral careers.
  1. ASPH Public Health Policy Fellowship program

    • The Association of Schools of Public Health offers a fellowship program to students who have received a PhD in public health or related fields. In order to be eligible, a person must be a U.S. citizen or hold a permanent residency visa, and must have earned a PhD from a school of public health that is a member of ASPH and accredited by the Council on Education and Public Health (CEPH).

      ASPH fellowships offer opportunities to observe and work with congressional committees that deal with health policy, and provide a biweekly stipend for living expenses.     CDC Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness Fellowship

    • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers students who hold a PhD an opportunity to participate in the Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness Fellowship. This fellowship allows recent graduates of doctoral programs to gain hands-on training in health economics and policy by working with CDC professionals to promote disease prevention.

    AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellowships

    • The American Association for the Advancement of Science offers a Science and Technology Policy Fellowship to persons holding a doctorate in a medical or health-related science. These fellowships are opportunities for professional development, and allow recent graduates to apply scientific knowledge to the realm of public policy.
