The B.R Chamberlain Outstanding Scholar award is a scholarship given to graduating seniors of schools who are members of the Southern Baptist Association of Christian Schools. The scholarship gives $1,000 to two top-rated students in the country, and six top-rated local students will get a $500 regional scholarship to the college of their choice. Students can download the application form at www.sbacs.org
The John R. Chandler Outstanding Musician Program honors SBACS-member school students who demonstrate exceptional musical ability. The top-rated student in the nation received $1,000 and two regional students receive $500. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA and an excellent skill in musical or vocal performance. They must submit a biographical essay, an audiotape and two letters of recommendation from teachers who know about their musical abilities.
You should apply at least a few weeks before the scholarship deadline, and be sure to have your teacher or parents review your personal statement before sending the application. It also helps to maintain a good grade point average throughout your high school years so that you'll have a better chance on getting the scholarship. Because these two scholarships are religious in nature, your personal statement should include what role your faith plays in how you view your future career.
