Southern Baptist Seminary Schools

Southern Baptist seminary schools give students an opportunity to prepare for a Christian career or a lifetime ministry of faith with programs and residence life that supports Christian values and adheres to the faith statement of the Southern Baptist Convention. Working clergy earn a median annual salary of $46,960, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 2008 data, however many seminary students apply their education toward volunteer outreach around the globe and fill ministry roles in their home or church community.
  1. Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary

    • Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary opened in 1951. The undergraduate offerings include an associate of arts or divinity and bachelor of arts in Christian studies. Post-baccalaureate programs include master of arts, divinity or theology and doctorate studies in ministry, education and philosophy. The school offers fully on line associate of divinity and missions certificate programs and a catalog of distance learning classes students may apply toward an on-campus degree. Students may take core course work at one of six extension center campuses; South Carolina-Anderson and Charleston, North Carolina-Fruitland Hendersonville and Charlotte, Richmond and Tampa. A Biblical Women's Institute (BWI) branch prepares women for Christian ministry at home, church and internationally with four certificate and diploma curricula.

    Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary

    • B.H. Carroll founded the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary on the Baylor University campus in 1908. Students can pursue bachelor degree programs in arts in humanities; history of ideas, education, homemaking, music or missions and music; worship, performance or composition. The school offers 18 master's degree programs in arts, counseling, education, ministry, music and theological studies. The school's 17 different doctorate programs include concentrations in pastoral leadership, chaplaincy, Christian formation and education. The school designed women-specific programs that range from a certificate program for seminary candidate wives to a master of divinity degree with a concentration in women's studies or ministry. Student organizations include fellowships for women, married students, international and minority groups.

    The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

    • The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary opened in 1859 as the first seminary of the Southern Baptist Convention. The school offers an associate of arts in Biblical and theological studies and 10 bachelor degree curricula in partnership with Boyce College. Master's programs prepare students for leadership roles with 14 concentration areas in theology, missions and evangelism and church ministries and close to 30 master of divinity degree plans. Students can pursue Ph.D. programs in 20 different specialty focuses. The school developed women's program for pastor wives and ministry outreach.
