AHIMA is short for the American Health Information Management Association. The AHIMA provides scholarships to those who are studying in the fields of healthcare information management, including those who are studying medical billing. The scholarships include the merit scholarship and the dissertation research assistance scholarship. The scholarships run from $1,000 to $2,500 depending on the degree program. In order to be eligible for these scholarship programs, a student must be studying at a school that both AHIMA and the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management approve. In addition, a student must complete at least six hours of coursework. Those who are interested can submit an application through the AHIMA website.
This scholarship is for any student that is studying in the healthcare or medical field. Students must display academic excellence in the medical billing field. Other eligibility requirements include being a United States citizen, being enrolled in an accredited university or college, pursuing a medical or healthcare degree and including a picture of self with a quote for the Medical Billing and Coding website. Eligible students receive an annual amount of $500 towards their medical billing training program.
The HIMSS Foundation offers annual scholarships to students at the amount of $5,000. Students also receive a free trip to the Annual HIMSS Conference and Exhibition. This scholarship is only for students who are pursuing a medical undergraduate degree that's relative to the field of health information management. Eligibility requirements include being a long-standing member of HIMSS and being in your junior year of college. Previous winner are ineligible for applying for this scholarship.
