Psychology Major Grants

There are a variety of grants available to psychology majors. While some of these are scholarships that may be used to pay for tuition costs, others are grants that can only be used to pay for the costs of research. Some grants are open to all psychology majors, while others are limited to either undergraduate or graduate students.
  1. Cappex Psychology Scholarship

    • The website cappex.com makes educational grant money available to psychology majors through its psychology scholarship. This semiannual scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, is awarded once in August and once in December. In order to be eligible, a student must be a registered user of cappex.com, must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, and must be enrolled at a college or university before funds will be disbursed. Scholarship recipients must allow cappex.com to use their name and a photograph for advertising. Prospective applicants should visit cappex.com to create a profile and apply for a scholarship.

    Psi Chi Undergraduate Research Grants

    • The organization Psi Chi provides grant money to psychology majors through its Undergraduate Research Grant program. This program awards grants of up to $1,500 to help defray the costs of research. There are two annual deadlines for application, one on November 1 and one on February 1. In order to be eligible, a student must be an undergraduate majoring in psychology, must be a member of Psi Chi, and must be the director of the proposed research project. Students may receive only one grant per year. Interested students should visit the Psi Chi website to submit an electronic application.

    SPP Routh Student Research Grant

    • The Society of Pediatric Psychology provides grant money to psychology majors through The Marion and Donald Routh Student Research Grant. This grant awards up to $1,000 to defray the direct costs of research, but may not be used for travel expenses, costs associated with preparing a manuscript, university costs or any other indirect costs. To be eligible, an applicant must be a student member of the SPP and must be conducting research under the guidance of a faculty adviser. The student must also be pursuing a graduate degree. The yearly deadline for grant applications is October 1. Interested psychology majors should visit the SPP website for more information.
