Scholarships for Scoliosis

There are many scholarships available for students with disabilities like scoliosis. Thanks to the generosity of schools, public and private institutions, nonprofit organizations, charitable funds and local and state governments, finding a way to pay for school is now easier than ever. Applicants will find a wide array of awards to choose from. Some are for particular areas of study, life situation or affiliation; some are merit-based, for those that demonstrate academic excellence; and some are need-based, for those that demonstrate financial need.
  1. Sonoran Spine Foundation Scholarships

    • The Sonoran Spine Foundation Scholarships are offered to students in Arizona by the Sonoran Spine Education and Research Foundation. Applicants must provide medical documentation of their diagnosed spinal deformity; must be attending either Arizona State University, North Arizona University or University of Arizona; and must be involved in their communities. The award amount is $1,000 per academic year.

    Dr. Gunnar B. Stickler Scholarship

    • The Dr. Gunnar B. Stickler Scholarship is available to students with Stickler Syndrome, a syndrome whose symptoms include scoliosis. Applicants must have documented medical proof of their diagnosis and treatment, must be graduating from an American public or private high school with the intention of attending an accredited college or university full-time and have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The award amount is $500 per academic year.

    SRS Educational Scholarship

    • The SRS Educational Scholarship is offered to surgeons from around the globe to help them attend the Scoliosis Research Society Annual Meeting. Qualified applicants must demonstrate financial need, represent a developing nation, be involved in research or care of patients with scoliosis and possess a university-level degree. The award amount is full travel expenses.

    ELA Foundation Scholarship

    • The ELA Foundation Scholarship is offered to a deserving, physically disabled female student by the Ethel Louise Armstrong Foundation. To qualify, you must be pursuing your graduate degree, have a medically documented physical disability such as scoliosis, be academically successful and demonstrate financial hardship. The award amount is generally between $1,000 and $2,000.
