To be eligible for a Navy ROTC Scholarship, a student must be a national or citizen of the United States. In the semester in which he begins the program, the student must be at least 17 years of age and no older than 23. He must attain commission before the year in which he turns 27. The student must have earned his high school diploma or GED by August 1 of the year he enrolls in the four-year Naval ROTC program. And he must have no moral objections to bearing arms and militarily defending the United States against foreign and domestic enemies.
For admission to the Navy or Nurse NROTC programs, a student must either have a critical reading SAT score of at least 530 and a math SAT score of at least 520, or an ACT math score of at least 21 and an ACT English score of at least 22.
For admission to the Marine option, a student must have a combined SAT critical reading and math score of at least 1000, or a composite ACT score of at least 22. A student must also score at least a 74 on the Armed Forces Qualification Test.
Once admitted into a Navy ROTC scholarship program, a student must fulfill certain academic requirements. She must complete all requirements for graduation from the institution she attends, and must take a full course load each semester to guarantee timely completion of her degree. In addition, she must complete a naval science course each semester, attend weekly drill instruction, and must attend and complete a four to six-week training course each summer. Students in each of the three NROTC options must take at least one semester of a foreign language or a class that pertains to a different culture.
Students in the Navy and Marine Corps options must complete a course in national security policy or American military affairs. Students in the Navy and Nurse options must complete at least one year of English and grammar coursework. In addition, students in the Navy option must complete one year of calculus and one year of calculus-based physics by the end of their sophomore year.
There also are certain physical requirements you must meet and maintain for Naval ROTC scholarship eligibility. Male students in the Navy and Nurse options must be between 62 and 78 inches tall. Female students in the Navy and Nurse options must be 60 to 78 inches tall. Male students in the Marine Corps option must be between 66 and 78 inches tall, and female students in the Marine Corps option must be 58 to 78 inches tall.
The weight of all candidates must be proportionate to their height. Students in the Navy option must have normal color vision. Students in all three NROTC options must pass a physical examination and be free of any disqualifying medical conditions.
Upon graduating, Naval ROTC scholarship recipients must fulfill military service requirements. Students who received a scholarship under the Navy option have a requirement to serve a minimum of five years in the armed forces. Students who received a scholarship under the Nurse or Marine Corps options must serve a minimum of four years in the armed forces.
