Florida Scholarship Requirements

With the cost of tuition on the rise, funding your college education can become quite difficult. With the help from state run programs, nonprofit organizations, business and government aid, scholarships are widely becoming more available for all students, regardless of race, background or religion. Florida offers students looking for financial aid for post-secondary education many scholarship options and opportunities.
  1. Florida Bright Futures Scholarship

    • Created in 1997 by the Florida legislature, the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship awards high school graduates with funding for continuing education in a Florida college, vocational school or a four-year university. The Florida lottery-funded scholarship covers public school tuition, fees and an extra living allowance for four years. Requirements include graduating from a Florida public high school with a 3.5 grade point average, receiving a 1270 for math and critical reading on the SAT or a 28 on the ACT and meeting other high school curriculum and community service requirements.

    The Barnes Scholarship

    • The Barnes Scholarship rewards four high school graduates with up to $15,000 per year to attend any nationally accredited university for four years. The scholarship was established for college-bound students who have achieved high academic success in the face of overcoming adversity and have a financial need.
      Applicants must be from public or private high schools in West Central Florida (Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties). Scholarship can be renewed every year as long as the student is in good academic standing and is enrolled full time.

    Florida Fund for Minority Teachers Minority Teacher Education Scholarship

    • The Minority Teacher Education Scholarship was introduced to keep students who are interested in teaching in Florida after graduating. The Florida Fund for Minority Teachers awards $4,000 annually on the basis that the graduate is required to teach in Florida one year for every year she accepts the scholarship.

      Applicants must be a resident of Florida, be African, American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American/Pacific Islander or American Indian/Alaskan native, and be accepted into any of the 33 teacher education programs that FFMT has partnered with.
