The Donald Burnside Memorial Scholarship is jointly administered by the University Aviation Association and the AOPA Air Safety Foundation. The $1,000 scholarships are awarded to college juniors and seniors enrolled in and planning to continue in a non-engineering field of aviation. One award is made each year and eligibility is partially determined by financial need.

The HAI provides four annual scholarships of $5,000 each for helicopter pilots who wish to train for and receive their commercial helicopter rating. Enrollment and attendance in an FAA part 141--pilot training--program is required. Application requirements include school accreditation, letters of recommendation, references and a 300 word essay on why you want to be a helicopter pilot.

The Leroy Homer Foundation offers scholarships to young people pursuing their pilots license. Applicants must be at least 16 and no older than 23 years of age by the application deadline of January 31 each year. Successful applicants will be notified in May. The applications are available online beginning in October and applicants must be seeking their pilots license on their own and not as part of a college curriculum.

The Whirly-Girls offers a number of specialized flight training scholarships with values up to $10,000. Scholarships are geared toward advancing helicopter flight training for current pilots instead of training new pilots. Flight training scholarships include Advanced Mountain Flight Training, Whirly-Girls Memorial Flight Training, Judy Short Memorial Flight Training and Aircraft Ditching scholarships. Membership in the Whirly-Girls is restricted to women holding a helicopter rating and scholarships are restricted to their members.

The Experimental Aircraft Association offers scholarships for aviation training through local chapters, foundations and memorials, including four-year scholarships. Some scholarships offer flight school training. The Young Eagles is a part of the EAA and offers young people 8 to 17 years old a chance to ride in a plane with a volunteer pilot. Young Eagle scholarships encourage interest in sport and career aviation.
