Helicopter Schools in Alabama

Alabama has a long aviation history. In 1910 the Wright Brothers established the first pilot training school in Montgomery. The school is now the Maxwell Air Force Base. In addition, the Aviation Hall of Fame is located at the Southern Museum of Flight in Birmingham. A dozen helicopter schools are located within the state. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires 40 hours of flight time and classroom instruction to earn a private pilot helicopter license.

      Double Bridges has a range of single and multi-engine helicopter aircraft for rent. The school is a VA-approved aviation training facility and offers financing for aircraft purchases. Training is on-site at the Enterprise Municipal Airport.

    Flight Training of Mobile

    • Flight Training of Mobile was founded in 2003 and is located at the Mobile downtown airport on Mobile Bay. The full-service program offers flight training through a series of simulators and avionics systems. A modern fleet of Cessna helicopter aircraft is used to meet flight time hours.

      The flight training is an FAA Part 141- and VA-approved flight school. A designated pilot examiner is on site for students to obtain a helicopter license. Affiliated with Utah Valley State College, college credit earned here can be applied to a degree in aviation.

    Auburn University

    • Auburn University is a public university in Auburn, Alabama that was chartered in 1856. A flight education program was established here in 1942. The school operates at the Auburn/Opelika Robert G. Pitts Airport, which is owned and operated by the university. The program trained civilian pilots in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

      The school offers both degree and non-degree programs in aviation education. The degree program is four years long and leads to a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. The training prepares students to have a career as a pilot professional or a career outside the cockpit.
