Pelican Flight Training in Pembroke Pines, Florida, is an intensive school accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools & Colleges (ACCSC) and approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). It has been training pilots since 1985. Programs include those for private pilot licenses, instrument ratings, commercial pilot licenses, flight instructor licenses and instrument instructor training. There is also an airline transport pilot program. Instruction mainly uses a Schweizer 300C model helicopter, but a special program also trains pilots to fly a Robinson R-22. Ground school courses are offered online, reducing the amount of time spent on location.
The Bristow Academy is an International flight training academy with locations in Titusville, Florida; New Iberia, Louisiana; Concord, California; and Gloucester, United Kingdom. They are accredited by the ACCSC and offer helicopter programs approved by the FAA and the European Joint Aviation Authorities. Programs include private pilot, commercial pilot and professional licensing programs as well as instrument rating, mountain flying and flight instructor courses. Group training is also available. The main training helicopter used is the Schweiser CB/CBi, but the school's fleet also includes Robinson R-22 and Bell 206B JetRanger helicopters.
Universal Helicopters is an FAA-approved helicopter training school that has operated since 2000 in Arizona, Kansas and Utah. Its training is done exclusively in Robinson R-22 and R-44 model helicopters. Introductory flights are available for those who want to see whether pilot training is right for them. Longer programs are available to award private and commercial licenses, instrument rating certificates and flight instructor licenses. Two hard-to-find courses are also available: high altitude training and autorotation with full touchdown. Those who are already certified can also use the school's helicopters for leisure flights or refresher courses.
Northeast Helicopters is the oldest helicopter training academy in the United States, having opened in 1974. The flight instructors are all former graduates of the program. The school, located in Ellington, Connecticut, offers private and commercial licenses, instrument rating and flight instructor courses. These can be taken individually or rolled up into one extended Pro-Trac program, aimed at graduating professional helicopter pilots. The school also offers an Airline Transport Program for those interested in going into corporate flying. Loans and scholarships are available to qualifying students.
