How to Apply for the Quill E. Cope Scholarship

The Quill E. Cope Scholarship was established by the Middle Tennessee State University Department of Education to support students enrolled in the Interdisciplinary Studies in K-4th or 4th-8th Grade Elementary and Special Education. Freshman applicants must score a minimum of 25 on the ACT exam. Incoming freshmen, full-time college transfer students and current MTSU students must have a minimum GPA of 2.80. Applications for the Cope Scholarship must be submitted by January 31.

Instructions

      Visit the Middle Tennessee State University website and create an MTSU Financial Aid Scholarship Manager and Information Portal user account to access the department scholarships for "Teacher Education".

      Locate the "Teacher Education: Quill E. Cope Scholarship" and click on the "Start Application" on the far right side of the page.

      Click "Yes" to certify that you have read the instructions for completing the Quill E. Cope Scholarship online application.

      Enter your last name, first name, middle name, MTSU ID number, permanent phone number, permanent address and alternate mailing address.

      Answer or leave blank the optional demographic "Supplemental Questions".

      Prepare a 150-word essay explaining your need of the Quill E. Cope Scholarship to finance your education.

      Enter your MTSU classification status for the following fall semester, and choose your declared major(s) and minor from the drop-down menu.

      Prepare a 600-word essay describing your declared major and your professional ambitions in the field of education.

      Prepare a 600-word essay describing how the Quill E. Cope Scholarship will assist you in your pursuit of a career in elementary special education.

      Enter the name and address of your high school in the appropriate fields.

      Enter your high school cumulative GPA and your ACT score in the appropriate fields.

      Enter the number of college credits you have accrued and enter your cumulative GPA.

      Enter your enrollment status and the number of credit hours you're currently enrolled for the fall semester.

      Enter the expected date of your graduation.

      List the most significant awards and honors received, your participation in community and academic activities, and your service in a leadership capacity.

      Answer "Yes" to the question: "Do you wish to be considered for this scholarship, awarded by the Teacher Education department?"

      Click on the gray bar entitled: "Save and continue to summary page". Review your scholarship application thoroughly, correct all errors, complete revisions and click on the "Save" bar.

      Follow the prompts to save and correctly submit your Quill E. Cope Scholarship application and safely log out of the ScholarX system.
