Understand what the scholarship provides to decide whether it is right for you. Officially known as the Bank of America Joe Martin Scholarship, it provides awards in the amounts of $1,000 to $5,000 per year of full-time study, with renewals for up to three years. Scholarships are awarded based on academic record, financial need, and school and community involvement and service.
Check your qualifications for applying. Bank of America employees must be active full- or part-time employees who have worked for the company for at least one year. Additionally, employees must be in a job band of 3-9. Employees in bands 0-2 are not eligible. Dependents must be 23 years old or younger and considered a "dependent"; be a high school graduate or senior; be enrolled in or plan to be enrolled in a two- or four-year accredited college, university, or technical/vocational school (this must take place the year the award is given); have an above average academic record; have a strong commitment to public service and school/public communities; and have established future and career goals.
Download the scholarship application from the Bank of America website (see Resources) between December 1 and the end of February of the following year. Information you will need to complete the form includes the employee's hire date, work location, employee number, email address and, if retired, his social security number. You also will note your work experience, and school and community involvement. You also will need your school transcript and a statement of your educational and career goals.
