The Community Colleges of Georgia

In additional to the impressive University of Georgia in Athens, the state of Georgia is home to an array of diverse community colleges, each of which provides unique educational opportunities for students from many backgrounds. Like most community colleges, these schools typically offer two-year degrees.
  1. Gordon College

    • Gordon College is perhaps Georgia's most highly-regarded community college. Located in Barnesville and founded in 1852, Gordon runs on a trimester system, with each term lasting approximately 15 weeks. Unlike many community colleges, Gordon has housing on campus, of which about 25 percent of its 3,000 students take advantage. Gordon offers associate's degrees in many fields, including Criminal Justice, History, Computer Science, Forestry and Occupational Therapy.

    Andrew College

    • Andrew College is a two-year liberal arts community college located in Cuthbert, Georgia. Founded in 1854, Andrew was originally founded as Andrew Female College as a four-year program; it dropped \"Female\" from its name in 1956 when it became coeducational. The college is very small, as it enrolls 350 students in total, and it offers four academic divisions: fine arts, humanities, math and science, and social science. Nearly all Andrew Colleges grads go on to enroll in four-year programs elsewhere.

    Bainbridge College

    • Bainbridge College, situated on 200 acres in the southwest Georgia town of Bainbridge, is one of the fastest growing colleges in the state; its enrollment has grown by nearly 50 percent in the past 10 years. The college is relatively new, as it was founded in 1970, but that doesn't mean it lacks in resources or funds, as it is a member of the University System of Georgia. Popular academic tracks include Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Psychology, Mathematics and Teacher Education.
