The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Health Service Corps Scholarship Program provides assistance for students studying to be physicians, dentists and nurse practitioners. The program pays for tuition, fees and books, and provides a stipend for living expenses. In exchange, the student must work in an approved National Health Service Corps site that is experiencing a shortage of qualified personnel for 2-4 years after graduation. The American Medical Association's Foundation Scholars Fund provides scholarships of $1,000 and up. The annual submission deadline is in July.
