Register for the test. Call the school where you’ll be taking the test to register and ascertain when the test will be given. Ask what materials are permitted (some schools allow students to bring in supplemental materials) and if there is a fee involved.
Familiarize yourself with the subjects that will be on the test. Gather textbooks, study sheets and other materials on the topics you’ll be tested on. These include Arithmetic, Elementary Algebra, College-Level Mathematics, Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills and the Written Essay.
Identify the subjects that are most difficult for you and set aside extra time to study them.
Explore online sites that offer free reviews, practice questions and other helpful hints to prepare you specifically for the test (see Resources below). Many of these sites have free study guides and mock exams you can take online.
Go to the test site. Bring pencils and pens and scrap paper with you. Bring supplemental materials, such as a dictionary, if the school has okayed their use. The test has a built-in calculator, though you may want to bring your own.
Take the test. The ACCUPLACER assessment is user friendly and will provide directions once you begin.
